Being Still

Being still does not mean don't move.  It means move in peace.  –E'yen A. Gardner

This quote inspired me to think about the ways in which I can move in peace.  A blog post on the Tiny Buddha site says there are six ways to live in peace and balance.

The first is to get rid of physical clutter in your surroundings at home and at work.  They suggest making a pile of items that mean something important to you, then going through each item and asking yourself whether you can keep the memory but throw away the item.  It's true: it's really the memories we want to preserve, not the things themselves.  Physical things carry vibrations of the past, which is why we often feel much lighter after getting rid of our old "stuff."  It's not just the physical items that are out of our life; it's the vibrations left over from the part of our lives that they represent.

The second tip is to take stock of your dreams and goals and keep updating them.  Many of us are stuck trying to accomplish goals that are no longer appropriate for us, or no longer entirely possible.

The third tip is to forget about trying to meet other people's expectations.  Yesterday I wrote about this when I talked about making your own imprint on the universe.  Live your own life, not someone else's.

Fourth, root out bad habits.  This involves letting go, and that is not very easy for most of us.  It seems ridiculous that we should cling to our bad habits, but that's exactly what we do.  But don't get rid of all your bad habits all at once.  Just choose one and work on it a little at a time.

Fifth, focus on remembering positive things, rather than dwelling on negative things.  The best way to remember things is to write them down, so keep a pen and paper handy for jotting down the positive things you encounter each day.

Lastly, find a way to let go of difficult or negative people in your life.  If you can't completely let go of them, then resolve to strictly minimize the time you spend with them.

These are all very good suggestions, and should help anyone to move in peace throughout their day.
